Egg-to-Peg-to-Plate | Part 5: The Hatch

After 25 days within our hatchery, our egg is now a chick and ready to be delivered to its new home!

 

Finally, we reach the exciting Part of our Egg-to-Peg-to-Plate series. The Hatch!


We run an automatic Breuil chick counting machine, which allows us to quality check at several points along the production line. Follow the British Game Alliance process below which has proven so efficient over the years.

 
5 days prior to hatching and after transferring (Part 4), the eggs are placed in the hatchers where the embryo transitions into a chick within the egg.
Come Monday, our Partridge eggs begin to hatch and on Tuesdays its Pheasant! Even at the final stages within the hatchery, all eggs (now chicks!) have full traceability back to the batch or farm they were sourced from.

Ove the hatching season, we proudly employ local staff keen to get experience with an industry-leading game farm. (From L-R): Here the line starts by carefully transferring the chicks from the trays and on to the conveyor belt. Processing in excess of 450,000 chicks per day, our production line ensures the chicks are transferred, counted and placed into boxes as quickly, comfortably and safely as possible whether Partridge or Pheasant.


We use a Breuil Chick Counter system to which allows chicks to be rigorously graded by our trained staff and accurately counted, Each box includes an extra 2% as a goodwill gesture for our clients.


(Below): Once boxed and organised into their deliveries, our team of loyal drivers work overnight in temperature-controlled, tracked vans to ensure timely, safe and stress-free delivery anywhere in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
